JEFFERSON T. (JEFF) WARD, 87, of Hatch, N.M., passed away Friday, Feb. 27, 1998 at Memorial Medical Center. He was born June 4, 1910 in Healdton, Okla. to James and Lydia Ward. In 1934 he married Jessie M. Wilson. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for 27 years as a ditch rider. After retirement in 1970, he worked for several years that the Hatch Co-Op Gin as a yardman.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jessie, of the family home. Daughters, Vonna Sheffield and husband Doyle of Victoria, British Columbia and Bonnie Russell and husband Lynn of Hatch, N.M. Seven grandchildren, Ken Sheffield of Lacombe, Alberta and Scott Sheffield of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Randal Russell of Gig Harbor, Wash. Shawn Russell of Engle, N.M. Debbie Palliser of Victoria, British Columbia, Beth Riggs of Artesia, N.M., and Cheryl Gillis of Hatch, N.M. Also by 16 great-grandchildren. Jeff, who was a triplet, was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lydia Ward, his only son, James Terry, and by his three sisters and four brothers.
Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Monday, March 2, 1998 at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Hatch, N.M., with the Rev. Jim Wood of Church of God officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ken and Doyle Sheffield, Shawn and Lynn Russell, and Vance and Duane Riggs.

DEATH TAKES TERRY WARD
James Terry Ward, 16 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Ward was taken in death Saturday evening at five p.m.
Terry was stricken with lukemia [sic] last December. He kept up with his classes as a sophomore at HVHS but periodically missed several days at a time.Two months ago he was rushed to Providence Hospital in El Paso with a violent nosebleed.
Terry valiantly fought a losing battle with this seemingly incurable disease.Terry, the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson Ward was born in Hatch. He was a member of the sophomore class and the Future Farmers of America.
The funeral services were held Monday at the Church of God with Rev. James Wood officiating. Pall bearers were Gary Cunningham, Vernon Cox, Bob McDonald, Jerry Berridge, Bob Hill , Bob Jeffers, Don Whitlock and Larry White.
Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Harrison, Bill McKinney, Marshall Cunningham, Bud Cox, Raymond Jones, Paul Thompson, Ralph Hackey, and Jim Dines.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Ward, two sisters, Bonnie Lynn Ward of Hatch, and Mrs. Doyle Sheffield of Las Cruces, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Ward, and maternal grandmother, Mrs. B. L. Wilson.

Jefferson 'Jeff' T Ward was born June 10, 1910 at Healdton, Oklahoma, and died on Febuary 27, 1998 at Las Cruces New Mexico. Jefferson married Jesse M. Wilson in 1934.
Children of the marriage;
(i) Vonna Ward married Doyle Sheffield
(ii) Bonnie Ward married Lynn Russell
(iii) James Terry Ward born 1941 at Hatch New Mexico and died May 23. 1957 at
El Paso Texas, buried at hatch new Mexico. Died at 16 years of age of
Leukemia.
